Inspiration

Nature's small symbols

Tonje's jewelry draws its motifs from the nature around her. The tree stands as an image of life, the foliage reminds us of movement, the drop contains sensitivity, while the mountain gives strength and peace. She sees the symbols in the landscape and gives them shape in metal, so that they can be worn close to the body.

Crafts

Each piece of jewelry by hand

In the workshop at Solbakken, silver and gold are sawed, filed and shaped into small, unique pieces of jewelry. No two pieces are exactly alike, because nature itself never repeats itself. The back of several of the collections has patterns that vary from piece to piece, a small detail that makes the jewelry personal.

INHERITANCE

A living family legacy

Tonje grew up in a family of artists in Solbakken in Os. Her parents, artist Arne Mæland and writer Bente Bratlund, established the gallery Solbakkestova in 1985. For four decades, the place has been a home for art, crafts and nature. Tonje's jewelry is a continuation of this heritage, but also her own voice – small symbols in silver and gold that build a bridge between tradition and the present.
